What types of batteries do we collect and recycle?
In the waste recycling industry, there are two types of recycling, these are household portable batteries (anything you can hold in your hands, and up to 6kg in total weight) and commercial batteries.
At EnviroCraft, we offer both.
This means that we provide our battery collection and recycling services to everything from domestic properties, to large UK multi-site businesses – whatever your requirements, we can adapt our battery disposal services to meet them.
We currently recycle the following battery types:
- Lithium ion batteries
- Alkaline batteries
- Ni-Cd batteries
- Lead acid batteries (including batteries that are used in forklifts and other types of industrial machinery)
- UPS batteries (these are widely used as back ups for offices)
- Button cell batteries
For each of these types, we offer a specific storage, collection and processing method, guaranteeing the highest possible level of safety.
How to safely store batteries
Once your batteries have been used and need to be disposed of, they need to be stored in approved containers.
If possible, these containers should be stored away from the rest of your premises, as this will significantly reduce the risk of fire.
Fire is the main hazard with battery storage. So, you will need to carefully consider any fire risks when storing your batteries.
For example, do not store your batteries in cardboard boxes. Equally, avoid placing the container in close proximity to paper, or any other flammable materials. Ideally, your battery container should be positioned away from the areas where your team work, and it should not be kept too close to your premises’ fire exit path.
The process of collecting and recycling batteries with EnviroCraft
Once you are ready for your batteries to be collected, the process is as follows:
- Send a picture of the batteries in situ to EnviroCraft
- We will provide you with a battery disposal quote
- We will arrange a collection, at a time that suits you
- We will safely store and transport the batteries
- The batteries will be taken to a recycling centre for further processing, to minimise the amount of waste sent to landfill to the fullest possible extent.
Why is recycling batteries important?
According to the Environment Agency, in 2019, the UK collected 17,386 tonnes of batteries to be recycled. Although this may sound like a high number, it actually represents a recycling rate of just 44.34%.
What’s more, the UK has consistently struggled to meet its battery recycling targets. Batteries represent a huge part of our landfill waste. And, due to the chemicals within them, they are among the most hazardous items that get sent to landfill.
For these reasons, recycling your batteries is one of the best things that you and your business can do for the environment. So, if you want to improve your premises’ environmental standards, EnviroCraft is here to help.
With our expert battery recycling services, we will process your waste batteries, to ensure that the composite materials are carefully processed, and that the maximum possible percentage of the battery is recycled.
At the same time, we will also help you to reduce your carbon footprint, without ever risking the safety of those who reside in the property.
